Pre-retreat information

In this video, Kale shares more details on what to expect, bring and prepare for in Sumatra.

IMPORTANT:
Your passport & flight info and dietary requirements

Surfboards

If you want to bring your own surfboards, our chosen airline allows this (you will, however have to cover those costs on your own, paying the travel agent/airline directly).

If you want to send your board by ferry they normally arrive a day or two later. Once again, this comes at your own cost but you should also consider the delayed arrival of the boards via this route.

Otherwise, we will have a KBD fleet at Aura for the group to share. Please bring your own leash and Futures fins. If you are planning on using a KBD board you will be expected to cover any repairs or damages that might occur from your use.

Surfboards we’ll have at the resort: Kale Brock Designs Performance Mid Length and an Everyday Short

Daily schedule

Our schedule is flexible to maximise alignment with the best waves, but a coaching day typically is;

Morning

  • Group breakfast

  • Morning surf + video analysis

  • Group lunch

Afternoon/Evening

  • Afternoon surf

  • Group dinner

You will have time to relax and rest, however the week is very full. We highly suggest you consider leading up to your retreat with our fitness programs available on The Surfers Roadmap.

ACCESS ALL RETREAT MEDIA HERE.

Retreat FAQ’s

Working with Kale

  • “I’ve improved more in 1 week than I have over 20 years of surfing! I’m so grateful to Kale and also incredibly annoyed at myself! Why didn’t I do this earlier!? I finally know what I should be doing to progress my surfing.

There are coaches and then there’s Kale. I don’t think there’s another surfer at Kale's level who also has the natural gift of coaching.”

    Seb (TSR Nicaragua Student)

  • “When I’m surfing now I have so much more awareness about what to do on a wave to keep me in the power zone and to actually progress. Kale definitely has the sport of surfing broken down into its precise components and has a great skill in explaining those components to anyone.”

    Tim (TSR Maldives Student)

  • “Kale has produced a surf coaching program that has made strong surfing technique bioavailable to his students. I now know I can improve and how I can improve.

My world has opened up so far as surfing is concerned and I couldn't be more psyched.”

    Kevin (TSR Nicaragua Student)

  • “My 1 week in Nicaragua with Kale was exactly what I needed to get my surfing to the next level.

Kale has a special gift in not just seeing the complexity of surfing, but more importantly, he has the gift of being able to break the complexity down into simple instructions / cues for his students... I will be back for more! “

    Kasper (TSR Nicaragua Student)

  •  “He’s an amazing coach. He breaks down the fundamentals of surfing and its biomechanics really well with excellent articulation. The side by side video analysis was particularly helpful for me and has definitely helped me take big steps forward in my surfing this week.”

    John (TSR Maldives Student)

  • What normally would take me years of trial and error I learned in 1 week with Kale. He truly has a passion for surfing and teaching.

This retreat has given me a new perspective on how I view surfing and it’s something I wish I had access to 20 years ago. Already looking forward to the next trip!“

    Joey (TSR Nicaragua Student)
