We are thrilled to announce exclusive 1 week retreats in the remote surfing paradise of Simeulue, Indonesia.
In this premium, intimate retreat with TSR Certified Coach Craig (R1-2) and with TSR Head Coach Kale Brock (R3-5)) surfers will enjoy an abundance of perfect, empty waves across reef and sand.
With its pristine surroundings, surfers can enjoy white sandy beaches and lush tropical forests, perfect for remote wave hunting and surf progression.

Surfing Level and Progression
This retreat is perfect for those surfers who are performing low to high intermediate level manoeuvres on a wave face yet feel they have plateaued in their abilities. You must be confident surfing over a reef in chest high to slightly overhead waves. We are going in the ‘off-season’ intentionally, to minimise crowds and maximise fun, rippable waves for all levels without the likelihood of big swells.
By working closely together with your TSR coach throughout the entire week, surfers will be able to identify the patterns or sub-optimal techniques holding them back and begin to optimise them for better surfing. Utilising The Surfer’s Roadmap curriculum and a fun and friendly approach, you’ll unlock years of progression on this retreat.
Your surfing sessions will be filmed and translated into an analysis on retreat and you’ll receive a copy to take home.
Our learning environments are fun and supportive, regardless of your ability level! We always strive to provide you with a fun, stress-free surfing experience.
What’s the difference between R 1-2 and R 3-5?
On weeks 1-2 surfers will work with TSR Coach Craig.
On weeks 3-5 surfers will work with TSR Head Coach Kale.
All analysis and coaching will be anchored in The Surfer’s Roadmap principles, offering a deep dive into your surf technique and how to unlock it for fast progress.
Retreats 1 and 2 are slightly cheaper than retreats 3-5.

Surfboards in Simeulue
Getting surfboards to the island is notoriously difficult, and so to make your travel as seamless as possible, we plan to provide a quiver of KBD Surfboards at the resort, included in your package.
We will have a range of Everyday Shorts and Performance Mid Lengths on offer for the students, enabling you to travel without bringing boards. If you are certain you wish to ride your own boards, you’ll have to pay the local airline for their transport (approx $340 AUD return with a size limit of 1.8m) or send them via the local ferry (approx 24 hour duration) for a cheaper rate.

Enjoy this video where Kale teaches one of our star students, Ben, how to get tubed! We will be utilising the same resort and same waves, but expect slightly less swell in the ‘off-season’.
Accommodations
We’ll be staying right in front of a perfect wave at the luxurious Aura Surf Resort. Relax by the pool and watch the sunset or sit up in the tower for a detailed surf check, this location is by far the best on the island.
Each guest will have their own private bungalow or they can choose to share a bungalow with a partner.
Surfers have included 3x fantastic, generous buffet Indonesian meals cooked and served on site in the restaurant each day.
The group will be hosted by one of Aura’s surf guides in conjunction with your TSR coach and transport to waves will be done in a comfortable vehicle.
Steps to booking with us
This retreat is first in best dressed, please ensure you have read all information regarding payment and surfing ability prior to booking.

Secure your spot on this exclusive, one-off trip by paying a non-refundable booking deposit, with the remaining fee being due 90 days before your retreat.

We’ll be in touch with the finer details and to obtain essential travel details from you such as ideal surfboard volume etc. We’ll also need your passport info so, when appropriate, we can book your domestic travel and stay.

90 days before the retreat, you need to pay your remaining balance (this ensures we can pay the resort, our coaches and our airfares!).

Once payments are complete, and you have arranged your own international travel itinerary - you’ll be ready to unlock months of surf progression!

Arrival information
Guests are required to arrive in Medan (airport code KNO) in North Sumatra 1 day before your first retreat date (ie: if your retreat is Feb 2nd to 9th then you need to arrive in KNO on Feb 1st) . We will arrange 1 night’s accommodation in Medan (included in your booking) and a flight to the island on the first day of your retreat (this is a non-coaching day and the flight is included in your booking).
Please do not book flights for at least another few months until we can confirm the exact time and dates of domestic departures in 2027. Whilst we do expect, with a confidence rate of 90%+, there to be flights on the dates we have selected, sometimes the local airlines change their schedules and we MAY (though highly unlikely) have to shift dates by +1 or -1 day. Trust us when we say, these little challenges are worth the chance at quiet, great waves!

Each surfer should bring appropriate gear for water temperature (tropical), leashes, zinc and wax, as it is not always guaranteed you can buy this on location. Small medkits are a great asset to for minor cuts or rashes.

We cannot advise on visa’s, insurance and associated travel reuqirements e.g. COVID 19.

Our surf experiences are strictly non refundable. As such, we strongly recommend you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to protect you should you need to cancel. Deposits are non refundable and final payments are non refundable. This is because we commit this equity to securing locations and the heavy administrative duties involved in organising these experiences. In most cases, you are able to sell/transfer your place on an experience to another person. If there are external circumstances out of our control which prevent us from running the experience (natural disaster, pandemic travel restrictions, political upheaval, war etc) we will offer you a credit on the experience to use at a later date.
