with Kale Brock

Designed for low to high intermediate surfers (and above!)

Join us for an unforgettable opportunity to fast track your surfing progress at the world-class Lost Shore wave pool, just outside beautiful Edinburgh, Scotland.

We’re stoked to announce a premium surf coaching experience kicking off in Scotland in June 2026!

In this premium retreat with Kale, surfers will take advantage of perfectly engineered, consistent waves that allow for total immersion in progression-focused coaching. With no uncertainty about conditions, every wave becomes an opportunity to refine technique, accelerate learning, and build confidence.

Kale will take an intimate group of surfers through structured surf sessions, detailed video analysis, and surf-skate training, all designed to condense years of surf practice into a 24-hour window.

Surfing Level and Progression

Who is a low intermediate surfer?

A low intermediate surfer is someone who can take off with relatively high consistency and can cut across the open wave face. They may be learning to generate speed and perform small manoeuvres. The + indicates that anyone above this level can join and benefit also.

Who is an intermediate surfer?

An intermediate surfer is someone who can take off with confidence on various wave types and is performing manoeuvres regularly on the wave face. They may be looking to improve their timing, turn intensity and flow. The + indicates that anyone above this level can join and benefit also.

There is no performance pressure on our retreats; wherever you are at with your surfing, we will help you progress forward!

Working with Kale

  • “Kale’s an excellent surfer. Anyone who’s seen him surf knows that, but it’s his intellectual and sequential breakdown of the skills that you require to be a good surfer that set him apart from anyone else in the industry. He can immediately assess your surfing and provide you with the key to unlock your next leap forward.”

    Toby

  • “The quality of coaching has been way higher than I expected. He’s (Kale) totally transformed my surfing from just competent to now feeling dynamic and powerful so I’m stoked.”

    Forest

  • “When I’m surfing now I have so much more awareness about what to do on a wave to keep me in the power zone and to actually progress. Kale definitely has the sport of surfing broken down into its precise components and has a great skill in explaining those components to anyone.”

    Tim

  • “There’s been huge improvements in my surfing. Kale’s awesome – it’s almost like going on a surf trip with a mate except he has these incredible hacks that advance your surfing so quickly. It’s been really great for us.”

     Clinton

  • “He’s an amazing coach. He breaks down the fundamentals of surfing and its biomechanics really well with excellent articulation. The side by side video analysis was particularly helpful for me and has definitely helped me take big steps forward in my surfing this week.”

    John

  • “Having Kale out in the water to talk through technique live while it’s happening, whatever specific thing we’re focusing on, has been tremendously helpful and gives me clarity about what to do to keep improving.”

“I’ve seen years of surf progression condensed into 24 hours”

We have developed a world renowned surf curriculum and coaching method designed for fast-tracked improvement, often condensing years of painstaking progress into a 24 hour window

  • Wetsuit

The pool water is unheated and generally mirrors local Scottish conditions, around 12–16°C (54–61°F) in summer months like June. This means you’ll want a good cold water wetsuit (depending on your sensitivity). Kale wears a 4/3 with boots in these conditions at the lower end, and a straight 4/3 at the upper end.

    Surfboard

Bring the board that you'd surf in small to medium waves. Lost Shore will also have surfboards available for hire, but be sure to leave an additional 30 minutes to organise pre-retreat. We recommend a surfboard from kalebrockdesigns.com

    Other gear:

    * Snacks and a water bottle. Restaurants are also available on site.

  • Lost Shore Surf Resort is located at Craigpark Quarry, Ratho, Newbridge EH28 8AA, just 25 minutes west of Edinburgh city centre and south of Edinburgh Airport.

Make sure you arrive at least an hour before our first scheduled session.
